Walk Overview

The intended walk was to do Base Brown, Green and Great Gable, but the weather
made us turn round after the first summit. Very disappointing considering this was June

The Seathwaite Farm road

The walk starts from the popular approach road to Seathwaite Farm

The Farm sign

Approaching the Farm gates and the plaque states what later on became
all too apparent

Through the Farm yard and go under the passageway that gives access to a bridleway

The bridleway crosses the River Derwent and leads to a ladder stile

The path to Gillercombe

The track levels slightly from hereon as it heads towards Gillercombe climbing
very gently towards the Col between Base Brown on the left and Green Gable
directly ahead

The North face of Base Brown

The steep and scrambly North face of Base Brown provides the quickest
route up to the summit and passes Wainwright`s "Fallen Stone"

Nearing the top of the track towards the Col. From there a left turn provides
an easy route upto Base Brown summit

it started to bucket down which was the signal for a hasty retreat
