Walk Overview
A delightful short walk from the beautiful town of Grange over Sands. Great
views all the way and one of the more interesting summits you will encounter
on your Wainwright Outlying fells journey
The track up to Spring Bank Farm from Grange Fell Road
Starting out on the road to Spring Bank Farm
Take the Public footpath on the left to reach the open fell side
Through the gate and swing right. This crosses an open field that leads to
a wall on the far side
The path is well defined as it cuts across the field
Looking out over the sands as we cross the field
The gate in the wall on the far side of the field. We had to use the wall stile
Over the wall and a very pleasant green carpet leads ever so gently upwards
A belt of crags have to be crossed over to get to the summit tower
The belt of crags just before the summit
Through the crags and the summit tower of Hampsfell comes into view
The summit tower on Hampsfell and the "View Indicator" on the roof.
The Greek inscription above the door "RODODAKTYLOS EOS" which
means "Rosy Fingered Dawn"
The index of Fells that can be seen on the summit roof by turning the
"Indicator" to the matching number. Click here for a 360 degree view
Looking out over the estuary towards Heysham
Looking East towards the Helvellyn range of fells
Inside the tower a number of panels fixed to the wall provide some interesting reading
