Walk Overview

A lovely walk that takes in the beauty of Ennerdale Water. The path that climbs
steadily up the flank of Silver Cove is initially a little tricky to find largely due to
the amount of deforestation work that is currently going on. Once located though
it leads unerringly to the connecting ridge between Caw Fell and Haycock

The car park at Bowness Knott

The car park at Bowness Knott is free to use. The main track that runs down the
side of Ennerdale Water has restricted access to the general public, being largely
the domain of the Forestry Commission and MRT vehicles only

Across the river and the intended route of the day is highlighted. It shows the steady
climb up to the ridgeline that connects both Fells

Into the forest

The stone path is only followed for a short while before taking a right turn
into the wooded area to follow a wide forest track

The track swings right

Just as the track starts to bend right, it`s time to branch off left at any convenient point
and make the short journey over grass to the fence line

The fence

The fence line that connects both summits of Caw Fell and Haycock. At this point
it`s just a case of deciding which fell to do first, Haycock (left) Caw Fell (right)

The path up to Haycock

We take the left route to do Haycock first. It`s worth crossing the wall
so that you can pass Little Gowder Crag on the right hand side
