Walk Overview

At over 2,600 feet, Lingmell is no tiddler but yet it finds itself surrounded by some
of the Lakeland giants, notably Scafell Pike, Scafell, Kirk Fell and Great Gable. The
route taken from the NT car park at Brackenclose follows the natural feature of
Lingmell Gill as it cuts through Brown Tongue. The track up to Hollow Stones is
impossible to get lost on and from there it`s a case of turning left away from all the
crowds on their way up to the Pike and following a good track all the way to the summit

The bridge

Leave the car park at the Eastern end and head for the bridge

The hand gate

Cross the field towards a wooden gate that gives access to the start of Brown Tongue

Crossing Lingmell Gill

Keep on the track until you get to the natural crossing point of the Gill. In bad weather
this can be a little tricky, but not today. Once across the Gill just follow the obvious
stone track

Heading towards Hollow Stones

On the track properly now and heading towards Hollow Stones

Scafell and Black Crag

Hollow Stones

The start of Hollow Stones. Whilst it can be a bit of a boulder highway, the journey
through is well cairned and leads unerringly to Lingmell Col

Looking towards Lords Rake

Higher up the path now and the scree slope in the centre of the shot leads to
the foot of Lords Rake, an exhilerating but safe way up towards Scafell

First view of Lingmell

Keep on the track as far as Lingmell Col at which point turn left and leave the crowds
who are heading to Scafell Pike. Walk across the grassy area towards a broken wall.
From here you can clearly see the path leading to Lingmell summit
